The oldest of Tarnów’s secondary schools, the tradition of which dates back to the 16th century, where hetman Jan Tarnowski signed a donation deed and transformed the existing diocesan school into a new type of gymnasium. At XVIII century, the school had 200 students and 4 professors appointed by the rector of the Krakow Academy. The present building was built at the beginning of the 20th century as an impressive three-story building with two wings and interesting facades with beautiful plaster cornices. In the middle there is a representative staircase with fan-shaped flights of stairs with elegant balusters and ornaments.
