This not so big monument, located at the corner of Piłsudski and Kopernik streets, is one of the most interesting urban monuments. Circumstances of its creation are a big factor in its specialty. In 1925 there was an incident, that moved local opinion and became the topic of many press comments, which lead the monument’s building to be the center of attention. During the night of 20th/21th of June an anonymous donor handed a small stone slab with an image of an eagle with a crown and a writing: TO AN UNKNOWN POLISH SOLDIER FALLEN FOR FATHER LAND 1914-1920 under the Mickiewicz monument at Kazimierz Wielki’s square. The message moved people to the point of bestrewing the monument with flowers and wreaths.
