The Zakliczyn Market Square and Wooden Buildings
Rynek, 32-840 Zakliczyn
The Market Square in Zakliczyn is large (170 to 100 meters), the second largest one in the voivodship. There is a renovated town hall and several residential tenements (Kamienice). The square is not only an administrative and service centre for the adjacent towns, but also a historic monument. Around the square there are 7 streets with so called Waldhufendorf (chain-like) single-family buildings. Even today we can see several historic wooden houses from the turn of the 19th century. The architecture of Zakliczyn consisted of wooden, two-storey houses, placed with their tops to the square. The roofs had advanced eaves, supported by wall poles. The poles had an important function because they took the weight of the roofing from the log walls.
