The tower perfectly visible from the road to Nowy Sącz is the oldest part of the castle. It was built at the end of the 13th century. The first mention of the castle comes from 1356. The castle played the role of protecting the customs chamber on the way to Hungary, the seat of the mayor and the royal station. It was frequently visited by Polish kings during their trips. In the beginning of the 14th century the tower was surrounded by a stone wall. Next, in the north-eastern part a two-space residential building was erected with domed cellars while the gate was protected with a foregate. In the 15th century the castle of Czechów was strengthened by adding a four-sided gate keep. At the turn of the 16th century an oblong house was added to the residential building in the south. In 1993 the works aimed at rising the castle from ruins were initiated. First the tower was made available and a vantage point was created there. One can see, among others, the nearby Melsztyn castle from there. Today, partially reconstructed, it is the most important spot in the Municipal Park of the Green and Relaxation “On military-historical route”.
