The history of the church dates back to the times of King Casimir the Great. The old stone church served the parish community without major changes for almost six hundred years. In the 20th century, it was enlarged to its present state, using the existing walls. During World War I, a metal forged fence of the church was made. Mainly women worked for it, because men were at the front then. In 1925, the belfry that still stands today was built and three bells were brought from an Italian foundry.
