The Penderecki Manor with a Park and the European Centre for Music

Lusławice 250, 32-840

The village was founded in the 13th century by the German knight Ludpław. In the 16th and 17th centuries it was a center of Polish Brethren. An Arian printing house and a higher school (“Lusławice School”) operated here.

In the twenties of the twentieth century, delighted with the local area, Jacek Malczewski established his own workshop and nursery for gifted rural children. In 1974, Krzysztof Penderecki bought a manor house and a garden that had been deteriorating since World War II.

For forty years he developed and nurtured it. “Two passions have converged here – the passion of an architect, a composer of a garden space, and a passion of a dendrological collector. And so, year after year, the number of trees planted by me grew not accidentally, but deliberately, with an idea of what they would look like in a quarter or half a century … ” (K. Penderecki, Lusławice Gardens).

This is how the Lusławice arboretum of Elżbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki was created, a 15-hectare park with a unique tree stand and shrubs.

In 2005, the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center was established here, which became a meeting place for young musicians and masters. It is this formula of master-student work that aims to educate and develop young musical talents from around the world. It is here that master classes, music concerts and festivals are regularly organized. Working with artists, educators and specialists of European and world format, the CENTRUM has achieved and continues to maintain a high standard in the implementation of all its programs.
