Monastery of the Bernardines

Bernardyńska, 33-110 Tarnów
http://www.tarnow.bernardyni.pl/

The Bernardines appeared in Tarnów before 1459, brought by 1465 – as the record in the monastery chronicle tells – the superiors of the monastery community were: Fr. Szymon of Lipnica (canonized – on June 3, 2007). In 1468, for fire safety reasons, a new brick church and monastery were built, replacing the old wooden ones, outside the city walls. The foundation’s motive was the devotion of the founder: “for God’s honor”. The buildings constructed in this way were not transferred to the Bernardines until November 23, 1499.
