Monument to John Paul 2 at the Cathedral

On the Cathedral Square, by the presbytery of the Tarnów cathedral, there is a statue of John Paul II. The monumental figure of the pope is five meters high and is his first monument in the world. The monument was unveiled on June 29, 1981. The Pope liked Tarnów very much. As a bishop and later metropolitan of Krakow, he visited the city over a dozen times. In 1987, he also visited them as pope, during his third pilgrimage to Poland.
