Archive was created in 1950 as a District Unit in Tarnów in National Archives in Kraków. The first dwelling of Archive was a small room in a building on Kniewskiego street (now Bernardyńska street). In 1985 Archive has received a building in Tarnów-Mościce at Chemiczna 16 street, the dwelling was moved to a renovated building in 1991.
