Operation Most III (the Monument Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Operation Most III)

Lądowisko "Motyl" Wał- 193, Wał-, Ruda 33-133

In Wał-Ruda there is a monument commemorating the 60th anniversary of Operation Most III in 1944 (Polish most stands for bridge). During the operation, soldiers of Armia Krajowa (the Home Army) managed to overtake and secure parts of the V-2 rockets that exploded in the proving ground near Sarnaki village in the Masovian region. The V-2 rocket, Hitler’s secret weapon, was transferred to England thanks to the Home Army soldiers from Tarnów. It saved the British Isles from destruction. Knowing the weapon’s structure, the Allies could defend themselves successfully. The monument is a large granite rock with an inscriptive tablet, and a Kotwica (Polish for anchor) – the emblem of the Polish Underground State and the Home Army. Beside, there is a tablet and a platform from which one can watch the landing field.
