Semi-tower

Walking down Wałowa street we will see a characteristic semi-tower. It was built together with a part of the antemural by bricklayer Bartłomiej probably in 1521. The semi-tower, also called the half- shell tower, represents a contemporary type of a defensive construction with shooting ranges regularly positioned on three storeys. The construction was ordered by the municipal authorities but it can be assumed that the then owner of the town hetman Jan Tarnowski had influence on its shape. The semi-tower received its present look in years 1967-1969 after conservation works. In March 2018 the tenement house in Wałowa 25, which obscured it, was demolished. In the near future the Multimedia Artistic Centre is supposed to start its activity next to it.
