St. Stanislaus the Martyr Bishop Birthplace

32-800 Brzesko

St. Stanislaus was born in Szczepanowo, a little village between Tarnów and Brzesko in Lesser Poland (the Małopolska region). The exact date of his birth is unknown, though it is assumed that it was between 1034 and 1040. He became famous as a preacher and missionary of Lesser Poland. Two great loves are combined in the person of St. Stanislaus: the love of God and His Law, and the love of Poland, still taking its shape at that time. He died because of his activity. By his thoughtful and determined admonishing, he tried to influence the Polish ruler. Throughout the ages he was considered as a symbol of resistance to tyranny. As a moral authority, he is an example of mercy, modesty, diligence and industriousness.
