In a renovated in a modern manner old barracks building in Mościckiego street no. 29 the history of fights between the population of Tarnów and German occupants during the 2nd world war is presented. The visitors become familiar with the town history just before the breakout of the 2nd world war, during German occupation and just after the liberation. Many events are organized here, mainly connected with the history of Tarnów of the above mentioned period as well as family picnics, workshops and interesting training courses.
The centre is being created in old barracks buildings which previously housed the Memorial Room of the World Association of the Home Army Soldiers.
The exhibition in the new facility covers the period from 1939 to 1947.
– The idea of this exhibition is to show certain threads, which in our opinion are important, namely our regiments, which quartered in Tarnów from 1939, combat route of the 16th Infantry Regiment, next there is the entire period of occupation, the Home Army, various scouts’ organizations and the post-war period. Also the first transport to Auschwitz will be signalled – says Andrzej Szpunar, the manager of the District Museum in Tarnów.
In addition to the museum premises the building is equipped with a cinema room for 35 persons and an arsenal in the attic.
