Bima and mural behind it
Żydowska 12, 33-100 Tarnów
Bima at ul. Żydowska in Tarnów is the only visible remain of the Old Synagogue erected in 1630. The temple was many times damaged by the fires in the city. In 1935 its state was critical. The elevation cracked on the western and northern sides. On 8th November 1939 German soldiers burnt the synagogue and then blew it up and demolished its walls. Only the bimah was left – four columns with a piece of the vault, which was covered with roofing in 1987. Nowadays artistic performances are held there during the Memory Days of Galitian Jews.
