The beginning of the market in Czchów dates back to the 14th-century. It was built according to the German architectonic law. The streets and a church go out from its angles. In the centre there is a fountain dedicated to St. Kinga, and a natural monument – an oak called “Kazimierz”. There is a legend about St. Kinga’s stay in the town: “When she was escaping to Hungary before the Tatars, she stopped in Czchów and asked the townspeople for water. The people saw her numerous attendants, so they were frightened that the town would soon run out of water. So they offered plums instead. The troubled St. Kinga stopped in front of a rock at Węgierska street before departing. She prayed there, and stamped her feet, and then a spring pour out. They all quenched their thirst and went away. Since that time, there has been a lack of water in Czchów but the plum trees give beautiful fruits.
