Austrian cemetery from World War I located in the village of Lichwin. The large number of soldiers buried in this cemetery is related to the strategic importance of Gródek Hill. There were fierce fights for them. On the night of May 3, soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army attacked the hill. At 11 o’clock, Russian soldiers launched a violent counterattack and recovered the hill. The next day, at 4 am, Austrian soldiers renewed their attack and recaptured the hill. It was a fragment of the great offensive of the allied Austro-Hungarian and German armies known as the Battle of Gorlice.
