Wojnicz – palace and park

Jagiellońska 27, 32-830 Wojnicz

Wojnicz is one of the oldest towns in Małopolska. It was granted city rights before 1278 (possibly already in 1239). Before the city was founded, a castellan stronghold existed here from the 11th century. In the park just behind the southern part of the hillfort of this stronghold, in the area of the former village of Zamoście, there is a palace erected on the initiative of Władysław Dąmbski in 1876, in the place of the wooden court of the voivodeship starosts. Built in the English neo-Gothic style on an elongated rectangular plan, two-bay, with a basement. On the front facade axis, an avant-corps with the main entrance. From the back there is a columned portico, i.e. a gallery with arcades. Gable roof, tiled. Neo-Gothic stepped balustrades of the side elevations are an important decoration of the building, along with pointed windows and entrances. Turrets at the corners. There are three sundials on the facade. Once on one of them there was an aphorism, today obliterated, by Kazimierz Brodziński. Although you will not finish, still do, / you – not the work – will tear your grave, / although here for our deeds is short, / everything will end, because it has time.
