Wytrzyszczka – Tropsztyn castle

33-314 Wytrzyszczka

Between the road from Cracow to Nowy Sącz and the lagoon made on the Dunajec there is a reconstructed castle called Tropsztyn. Its owner makes it available for visitors in July and August. In the 12th century a town supervising the duct over the Dunajec and the nearby passage was built there. In the second half of the 13th century in its location the stone castle was erected. It belonged to lords de Sancto Sweredio, because it was then the name of the town. At the end of the 14th century the castle was developed by its next owner Chebda, coats of arms Starykoń. The stone square tower was erected then. Chebda’s descendants developed the castle but in the 1530’s it was already abandoned. In 1990 the Tropsztyn Castle Reconstruction Foundation was set up. The reconstruction works were completed in 2004. In the castle we can see an exhibition the leading motif of which is the story about the Inca treasure hidden over the Dunajec.
